The Inverse Astrology Test was put together by first determining what characteristics are generally associated with which sun signs. This was initially done by consulting the most popular astrology web sites. Over a span of a year, professional and novice astrologers wrote in to correct what they felt were errors in the assessment. If their corrections matched the predominance of astrology web sites and books we could find, they were incorporated. There was a surprising amount of agreement, though, in this area, and only minor changes were needed to be made.
Each trait may be associated positively or negatively with one or multiple sun signs (positive associations are given double the weight as typical astrology guides do not say what a person is not). People self-assess based on these characteristics, the opposite of what they typically do when reading the characteristics written under their sun sign and then using post hoc justification to confirm astrology. Each characteristic then adds to or subtracts from the ultimate score for each sun sign (this score is divided by the maximum possible for each sign to get the final percentage). The sun sign with the highest score is the estimated sun sign for the user.
